Bioshock: 3.5/5 stars
Bioshock has been one of the most; talked about, hyped up highly rated PC games of 2007. But now we here at Teh Geekopedia, will give you our perspective on this hyped up and popular game. ("..In a way, that only gamers can deliver it".)
Bioshock has a great variety of weapons mutation powers, and ways to defeat your enemy.
For example: You can use your wrench and go hand to hand with enemy. Or you can use a mutation power and then finish off your now weakened and dazed enemy. Or you can brainwash them to work for you.... The list goes on and on.
Bioshock also has, top of the line graphics especially with dx10.
Which makes the game just that much more fun. Although you may think graphics don't mean much. Once you play a high level graphic game like this, you won't want to go back. (This game might be worth buying just to see the water graphics alone. :O)
The storyline is basically a underwater society gone bad...terribly bad. The enemy you go against does not change, it stays with a few types of enemy, making it sort of boring at times. Most of the type of enemy you'll face are deformed/zombie/undead, humans screaming anything from, "you killed my johnny!" to "F**k you!", which is personally not my cup of tea.
Second, The weapons in this game are not really all that great. I mean yea they're cool, but not as cool as they can get. And the fact that you have to manually reload your weapons, just isn't super fun.
Third, The mutations you can apply to yourself are sweet. Because, they are effective and with the graphic level in this game, they look super cool!
The only downside to the mutations is:
The mutation don't recharge automatically. Therefore, you cannot run around spamming your mutation powers. :( You have to find kits to recharge your mutation powers after every couple uses by finding and using kits that recharge your powers. Which can get very frustrating and inconvenient, when in the middle of battle.
Fourth, Although, Bioshock says,
"Explore an incredible and unique art deco world hidden deep under the ocean."
There really isn't alot of "explore" in this game. You basically have to follow the track the makers of Bioshock want you to go to get through this game, rather than taking alternative routes to get your objective done. For example: Rooms usually only have 1 way to get out, rather than 3 ways to get out. Which, forces you to have to go the way they want you to go.
Finally, since you are in an underwater society, there isn't much light there. Therefore you are basically always in dark rooms, with 1930s-1950s advertisements and pictures on the wall, which again is not my cup of tea.
Bioshock is a good FPS, with a great variety of weapons and mutations and ways to kill your enemy. But, there isn't enough exploring in this game, the enemy does not change, instead you just go against a few generic types of enemy, manually reloading your weapons can get kind of old, the ligting in this game is always dark and depressing.
Final Conclusion: Bioshock is a good game to buy, but the quality of game play does not match up to the hype.
